Since 1787, the men and women of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office have been dedicated to protecting life and property. We are here to enforce the laws of the state of West Virginia, deter crime and civil disorder, provide service to the courts, ensure humane safekeeping to all persons held in confinement, and work to preserve safety, social tranquility, and quality of life for all residents and guests of Randolph County, West Virginia. As we continue to grow, we remain dedicated to proudly serving the community’s needs for protection, justice, and security.

History of Randolph County, WV

Randolph County, the state’s largest county, was created by an act of the Virginia General Assembly in October 1786 from Harrison County. According to the first national census taken in 1790, Randolph County had the smallest population (951) of the nine counties that were then in existence and fell within the current boundaries of West Virginia.
